Perkins dates back just over 85 years ago to a small office in Peterborough 1932, where founders Frank Perkins and Charles Chapman had a vision of persuading manufacturers in the automotive industry to integrate diesel engines in the vehicles they were producing, rather than gasoline. They wholeheartedly believed diesel engines, would revolutionise the industry and that’s where Perkins was born. They changed the perception that diesel engines were slow and heavy engines, by producing a high-speed engine known as the wolf. A manufacturer called Humber, at the time were impressed by the results of the wolf engine design when they trailed it on their commercial trucks and from then on, Perkins has enjoyed a period of ever-growing success. Most notably, Perkins held 6 world record speeds for their engines at different distances in the period between 1940-50’s. Due to Perkins success, it quickly expanded into the agricultural industry and by the late 1950’s, built its presence all over the globe. Today Perkins has a legendary status for its engine parts in just over 175 countries and more than 3000 modern facilities and outlets, which serve multiple industries.
