Leyland tractors originated from two companies which merged together. Originally, William Morris the owner of Morris motors limited produced Nuffield tractors in 1948 but later became part of BMC: British Motor corporation. William Morris, more known as Lord Nuffield, quickly became the chairman of BMC, producing a vast variety of vehicles such as cars, tractors and commercial vehicles including names such as Austin. Leyland tractors was founded in 1968, when BMC merged with Leyland motors to form the new company: British Leyland. British Leyland massed produced its Nuffield tractors and enjoyed a period of success till the early 1980’s, despite the abandonment of the Nuffield name and rebranding of the Nuffield tractors to Leyland tractors. In 1982, British Leyland sold its Leyland tractors to Marshall Tractors Limited.
