Family man Henry ford grew up as a farmer in his early years and had the vision to ease the burdens of farmers by developing his own range of innovative products. In 1903, Henry founded the Fords motor company which developed its first plough in 1907.
Shortly after, the model T tractor was developed, and it was this inexpensive yet reliable design that made Ford the go-to tractor brand in the 1910s. However, the success of Henry Ford was almost tarnished when a group of entrepreneurs challenging Henry Ford’s company naming rights. Henry Ford avoided this legal battle, by renaming his company: Fordson, derived from Henry Ford & Son. The Fordson company began mass-producing its tractors in the US in 1917, and also sent tractors to the UK, in order to help feed Britain during the war effort. Fordson is famous for their inexpensive Model F tractors, which was revolutionary in terms of their value for money rather than technical capabilities. Many competitors could not compete with how reliable yet cheap the model F Tractors were.
Russia notably, imported 250,000 Fordson tractors in the 1920s. Fordson carried on producing a range of tractors, with its last models being the Dexta and Super Major tractors in 1961. Fordson was widely popular during its reign in the US and UK markets, and its tractors are widely used to this day. After years of competing against its original brand, Fordson was merged back together with Ford in 1964. With Ford's state of the art facilities and tractor designs, it enjoyed a period of success until Fiat acquired them in 1991.
